Swindon’s newest amateur boxing club is now open and welcoming both Junior and Senior members. Junior classes run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 18:00–18:45, with Senior sessions following from 19:00–20:30.

Based at Alpha Boxing & Fitness on the Isis Industrial Estate, the club is fully affiliated with England Boxing and recently passed its inspection with flying colours. Application forms are available directly from the gym.

The idea for Alpha Amateur Boxing Club was developed by Kyle Neilson, in partnership with Neilson Boxing. He said:

“Swindon has always punched above its weight when it comes to boxing talent. My father, Eddie Neilson, was a top-ranked heavyweight in the ’70s and ’80s, sharing the ring with the likes of Joe Bugner and Frank Bruno. That legacy continued with names like Pete Neal, Ricky Porter, and Jamie Cox—all of whom came through amateur clubs.”

“The amateur scene used to be thriving here. Over time, the number of clubs dwindled, so launching an amateur section at our gym felt like the natural next step.”

Now officially up and running, the club offers a place for aspiring boxers to build discipline, boost confidence, and potentially go on to represent their country at elite levels—including the Olympics.

The coaching team is committed to supporting everyone who steps into the ring, helping them not just physically, but mentally as well—whether it’s overcoming anxiety, building self-belief, or simply developing a strong work ethic.
